Working on WordPress: Basic Installation and Process to Work

To start working in WordPress, it is important to follow the following steps.

1. First, we need to install Wamp Server.

  • For that, search for Wamp server on google. 

  • Then download it from a good source like FileHippo or any link that is safe and downloadable. I downloaded it from “aviatechno”. Make sure to translate the page to English. Link: “https://wampserver.aviatechno.net/files/install/wampserver3.3.0_x86.exe.

  • Then from the downloads list, install Wamp server. Allow the necessary permissions.

  • Then install all the necessary additional packages available from the links given in the installation process.

  • Wamp Server is installed.


2. Download WordPress from “wordpress.org”.


3. After starting Wamp server, W icon in toolbox appears green.


4. Click on W icon and go to phpMyAdmin.


5. Keep username root and leave the password blank.

6. Create new database and name it. 

7. Now extract WordPress that has been downloaded in step 2. 

8. After extracting WordPress, rename the extracted file. 

9. Paste this WordPress website in the www folder present in the Wamp folder in the C disk.

10. Type localhost/website name on google.

11. Click on WordPress.

12. Enter the name of database, enter root, password will be blank. Fill in all the details. Keep username as admin and password as admin_yourname in WordPress login.

13. You can now access the dashboard by localhost/websitename/wordpress/wp-admin.

14. Sign in by entering your username and password. 

How to create a post?

Click on Posts. Now click Add New Post. Name the post and click on Publish twice to publish the post. Now you can create a post using WordPress editor or by using Elementor.

How to create a category?

Click on Categories from Posts option, add name of the category to create. You can select the parent category as well if present. The category has been created.


How to create pages?

You can proceed to all pages page to make a new one. Here we can name the page and create pages using various elements either of WordPress editor or Elementor. It is from here that the website takes shape. We can create pages like Home page, Contact page, Service page, etc. 


How to create form?

1. Go for the pages of plugins and find out the one you are looking for. For eg, we are looking for a contact form plugin.

2. Search for WPForms and install it and then activate it.

3. Now an option on left side of dashboard named WPForms appears. Click on it. 

4. Click on Add New Form.

5. Now name the form.

6. Click on blank form.

7. Various field options are available. One can click and select. Like name field, email, single line text, paragraph text. Dropdown option is also available. Multiple Choice option can be used for inputs like of gender.

One can add images and icons too to their form. From the general section, select whether the field is required or not. From advanced field you can write placeholder and default value. One can also hide labels and sub-labels.

8. After the form has been made, you can preview it and save it.

Embed form on a page

Simply select WPForms from the field in Elementor and select the form name. It gets embedded.


Important Plugins

  • Elementor: This is a website builder and editor plugin. It has an easy user interface and many options available. 

Settings to do in Elementor:

Go to Elementor Settings, then click on Features and then Flexbox Container and select inactive for that. Save changes. In this way you can use Section/Column feature instead of Container.


  • WPForms: Best plugin for creating a contact form. One can easily create several forms and embed them too.


  • Yoast SEO: It is a Search Engine Optimization plugin for WordPress. It helps site to perform better in search engines and has a variety of features.


  • WooCommerce: This is used to create online e-commerce store. One can make any website turn into a fully functioning online store.


  • All-in-One WP Migration: It helps in backing and migrating WordPress sites easily.


  • Really Simple SSL: SSL is Secured Sockets Layer. A site with SSL appears and is, safe to browse. With SSL, a site displays https instead of http.


  • WP Fastest Cache: It helps users to enhance the performance of the pages on their website by clearing out the RAM and CPU cache that is often generated.



  • Elementor Header & Footer Builder: It helps to make header and footer in an easy format by providing a container.


  • UpdraftPlus: Best plugin if you have to take out the backup, migrate the database or even restore it.


  • Wordfence Security: It provides a WordPress firewall and blocks attackers looking for vulnerabilities in website.
